Director, Bachelor of Health Science Program; Assistant Professor, School of Healthcare Administration and Leadership

Kevin Rogers, DHSc, MA, MHA is the director of the Pacific University Bachelor of Health Science program as well as an assistant professor in the School of Healthcare Administration and Leadership at Pacific University. Before coming to Pacific, Kevin was the associate director at the Area Health Education Center in Honolulu, a federally funded program in the John A. Burns School of Medicine. There, he provided research support on the topics of Hawai’i’s healthcare provider shortage and K-12 healthcare career education opportunities. Kevin’s past work has included research support at the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research in Portland on studies primarily related to adolescent mental health.  Kevin received a bachelor of arts in international studies from Portland State University. He holds a doctor of healthcare science degree, as well as master's degrees in both counseling psychology and healthcare administration, all from Pacific University.

María-José Rodríguez, MA, HCI is a native of Spain and has been teaching Spanish since 1995. María-José earned a B.A. in linguistics from the University Complutense of Madrid, Spain. She also earned a B.A. in education from the University Autonoma of Madrid, Spain. When she moved to the U.S., she completed a Master’s in Comparative International Development Education at the University of Minnesota. She has taught Spanish at the University of Minnesota, Clark College, Washington State University, and Mount Hood Community College. Before teaching Spanish, she worked with the Latino community in the non-profit sector with Migrant Education and the Oregon Commission on Hispanic Affairs (OCHA).

María-José has taught Healthcare Spanish at Pacific University for the last 11 years. She is a Certified Healthcare Interpreter and is currently doing medical interpretation at the Pacific Interprofessional Clinic.  She has also done medical interpretation for the Pacific Dental Hygiene Clinic and Interprofessional Diabetes Clinic.

At the Centro Cultural, she has provided Spanish interpretation to assist Spanish speakers in navigating service agencies and community meetings. 

While at Pacific University, she has served as an interpreter for OT clinicians, students, and patients. Her participation in practitioner observations aids students using on-site or remote interpreter services for the Occupational Therapy program.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she provided interpretation and translation services in Spanish at Pacific University to help Spanish speakers access healthcare information, including materials related to vaccinations, and make informed healthcare decisions.

During the summer of 2023, she worked as a medical interpreter for the Eyevan project at the College of Optometry.

When not teaching, María-José enjoys hiking, biking, cooking, drinking tea, and spending quality time with her friends and family.

Mei Linn N. Park, MSW earned a Bachelor of Business Administration: Human Resources Management from the Shidler College of Business and a Master of Social Work from the Thompson School of Social Work & Public Health at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, where she is currently a PhD in Social Welfare candidate. Mei Linn is an adjunct faculty member for the Pacific Bachelor of Health Science program.

Wayne Clark, MA is an adjunct faculty member for the Bachelor of Health Science program. Wayne is a Director at WordLab and is a board member of the Native American Youth and Family Center.

Adjunct Faculty

Vince Roux, MBA is adjunct faculty in the Bachelor of Health Science program. Vince serves as a Senior Consultant and Senior Project Manager with FamilyCare Health Plans and has taught at Pacific University for over nine years. He previously served as a Manager of Budget and Forecasting and as a Director of Financial Planning with Kaiser Permanente.

Chris Mudder, MHA graduated from Pacific University in 2020 with a Master of Healthcare Administration degree. Chris is an adjunct faculty member teaching Healthcare Management and Governance for the Pacific University Bachelor of Health Science Program. Chris is a Family Care Clinic Manager III for St. Charles Health System in sunny Central Oregon.

Guest Lecturer

Dr. Baumhofer Merritt, ScD, MPH, MA is an Assistant Professor of Indigenous Health Sciences at the University of Hawaiʻi - West Oʻahu. Her current work draws on concepts and theories from medicine, anthropology, sociology, psychology, and public health to reduce Native Hawaiian health disparities within a social justice framework. In this way, her work addresses how social and cultural environments are embodied within individuals and manifest as the unequal distribution of disease between populations. Dr. Baumhofer Merritt leads us in discussions about these topics as a guest lecturer for the Pacific BHS Program.

Guest Lecturer

Dr. Lisa Spencer, DHA, MPH is an Assistant Professor at the University of Hawaii at West Oahu (UHWO). She is Lead Faculty working in the Long Term Care concentration and certificate programs at UHWO. Dr. Spencer shares her knowledge and expertise with us as a guest lecturer for the Bachelor of Health Science program.

Amber Vanzant '03, MAT '04 holds a bachelor of arts in education and learning degree (with a minor in psychology) and a master of arts in teaching degree, both from Pacific University (GO BOXERS!). She is a former elementary teacher, having taught grades K-2 in the Hillsboro School District for ten years prior to returning to Pacific in 2018.  Amber provides operational and administrative support for the School of Healthcare Administration and Leadership.

In her downtime, Amber loves to write, listen to vinyl records, attend concerts, and spend time with her many animals.
