24-Hour Study Center

The 24-Hour Study Center is accessible only from the West entrance with a BoxerID card. When the Library closes, the Library Classroom is accessible from the 24-Hour Study Center, but prior to closing, the Library Classroom is only accessible through the main building.

The 24-Hour Study Center contains 2 Mac computers, a copier, an emergency telephone, and restrooms. The Classroom is accessible via 24-Hour Study Center when the library is closed.


The Library features several of Kathrin Cawein's black and white etchings and illuminated manuscripts. The Library also features three of Jeffrey Chang's (class of 1973) large raku pots. The glass installation on the second floor was created by Walter Gordinier (class of 1973). The Library features several of Jack McLarty's paintings throughout, and Barara and Jack McLarty have donated a Mexican Folk Art Collection available in the Library's mezzanine. 

Book Drops

There are two book drops for patrons to use. One is located at the Circulation Desk.

The other is near the east entrance to the Library.


Library patrons are welcome to use the Library Instructional Classroom located on the first floor of the Library if it is not scheduled or already in use. The Library Instructional Classroom contains 24 dual-boot computers and is used for Library instruction. To schedule the room, e-mail Lynda Irons at lrirons@pacificu.edu.


The first floor Information Commons area has 24 computers available for patron use. These computers have the latest versions of the main Internet browsers, as well as Microsoft Office. (Tip: Bring a flash drive to save documents). There are two copiers that serve as printers available in the Information Commons.

In addition to these computers, there are various computer stations situated around the Library from which patrons can find items in Boxer Search.

Conference Room

The Conference Room on the second floor is used for the Board of Trustees and other meetings. The room can be scheduled through the University's scheduling coordinator and facilities management at schedule@pacificu.edu


An elevator is available near the current periodicals on the first floor.

Emergency Exits

Should an emergency arise, please follow the instructions of the Library staff. Emergency exits are located on the northeast side of the Library in addition to the public and staff doors.

Bicycle Racks

For your convenience, a bicycle rack is located outside the library's east entrance. There are more bicycle racks near Scott Hall.

Pacific University's bicycle policy


Benjamin Shook created the lounge chairs and coffee tables that are featured in the Library from wood that was harvested from the Pacific University campus.

Group Study Rooms

The Group Study Rooms/Collaborative Learning Centers are for the use of current Pacific University faculty, staff, and students only.

  • The group study rooms on the second floor are available on a first-come first-served basis and are not available for reservation.
  • There are priorities for access to the group study rooms.
    • Those who need the equipment will have first priority.
    • Groups have priority over individuals.
    • The group study rooms are not meant for class meetings.
    • Patrons are welcome to ask for assistance from Circulation staff if needed.
  • Please keep voices down since the rooms are not soundproof.
  • Users of the group study rooms will be asked to be considerate and limit their time to 2 hours if demand is high.
  • Patrons are responsible for leaving their study areas clean.
  • Please keep voices down since the rooms are not soundproof.
  • This room is not intended to be a meeting facility for regularly scheduled classes.
  • Users should never leave their belongings unattended in the rooms.
  • The Library staff reserves the right to make exceptions as needed.

Internet Access

The Library has both hard-wired Internet access built into study carrels and tables, as well as wireless Internet access available to the Pacific University community. Please visit the TIC (Technology Information Center) in Marsh Hall to establish your wireless connection.


There are 24 lockers available to patrons for day-use only, and they will be emptied nightly. Please ask at the Circulation Desk to check out a locker key.

Media Commons

The first floor Media Commons area has 8 Mac computers available for patron use.

Music Library

There are four listening stations located in the Music Library. These consist of a record player, a CD player, a cassette player, and an AM/FM radio. There are additional listening stations in Group Study Rooms 210, 211, 223, and 224.


The copiers are able to copy, scan (to email or USB), and release printing jobs There are two located in the Learning Commons on the first floor and another one is located in the Library Copy Center to the left of the elevator on the first floor.

The 24-Hour Study Center also contains a copier.

Patrons who do not have a PUNetID pay $.05 per page for B&W copies and $.25 per page for color copies. Ask for assistance at the Circulation Desk.

Security Gate

To ensure that Library material leaving the building has been properly checked out, an electronic security system is in use. An alarm will sound when material that has not been properly checked out is taken through it. When the alarm sounds, all books and packages will be examined to make sure that all Library material has been checked out properly. If a non-circulating item is found, a written incident report may be filed with Campus Public Safety and with the Dean of Students.


Emergency phones (which dial CPS automatically) are located in the 24-Hour Study Center as well as the Mezzanine.


A typewriter is available for patron use. It is located in the first floor Copy Center.
