OEDIA Workshops

The Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Accessibility offers a variety of workshops to provide professional development opportunities to our students, faculty, and staff. See below for descriptions of the workshops currently offered by OEDIA. 

Our workshops are generally offered between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday; however, we can work with your team to facilitate outside those hours as needed. Workshops may be facilitated on Forest Grove, Hillsboro, Eugene or Woodburn campus locations as well as via Zoom. If you'd like to discuss alternative options, please reach out to us at oedi@contact.pacificu.edu.

Current OEDIA Workshops

Bias & Hate Incident Reporting System
Presenter(s): OEDIA Team
Duration: 30 minutes
Want to learn more about the Bias Incident Reporting (BIR) System at Pacific University? In this short workshop, you will learn about the history of how the BIR was started at Pacific, some of the cases that the OEDIA handles, and how you can help ensure that Pacific is working toward becoming a more inclusive environment for all. 

Cup of Culture
Presenter(s): OEDIA Team
Duration: 45 - 60 minutes
Through our culture we develop a sense of belonging, personal and cognitive growth and the ability to empathize and relate to each other. This workshop helps articulate your own personal cultural values, increase awareness of workplace culture, values, and attributes, and explores cultural diversity in higher education.

Implicit Bias Awareness
Presenter(s): OEDIA Team
Duration: 60 minutes
Join the OEDIA team in a workshop that works to understand the concept of implicit (and explicit) bias. Learn how to become aware of the common biases and how to avoid them, and then develop the skills and knowledge on how to create equitable practices to avoid them in the future. 

OEDIA Orientation
Presenter(s): OEDIA Team
Duration: 15-20 minutes
A quick workshop to introduce your group to the Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Accessibility including our history, what we do, who we are, what resources we offer, and how to get involved. 

Ramifications of Microaggressions
Presenter(s): OEDIA Team
Duration: 60 minutes
If they are “micro,” how can we recognize them all? This workshop will help identify and define examples of intentional and unintentional microaggressions that happen all around us. Throughout the workshop we will also explore the impact of microaggressions and begin unpacking how you can address them. 

Retention Best Practices
Presenter(s): OEDIA Team
Duration: 30 - 45 minutes
Learn and explore actions to retain diverse students in your academic programs. Discuss the “challenges and opportunities” students of color face in predominantly white institutions and actions your program can take to address retention. 

Understanding Privilege 
Presenter(s): OEDIA Team
Duration: 60 - 90 minutes
Join in activities that explore the different aspects of privilege in a workshop that helps articulate and increase awareness and understanding of privilege. This workshop will also touch on unconscious bias as it relates to privilege. We will also work on applying an equity lens to various situations in the classroom and work setting.
