COVID-19 and Student Athletes

The Northwest Conference (NWC) has made the decision to suspend all spring sport competitions and NWC Championship events, effective immediately, until further notice. The NCAA has also canceled all remaining winter and spring NCAA Championships. Pacific Athletics will suspend all practices and competition for varsity, junior varsity and club programs until further notice. Coaches will be in contact with student-athletes with additional information. In addition all intramural activities and recreation fitness classes are also suspended until further notice.

How does the cancellation of my spring season affect my eligibility?

Due to the COVID-19 situation, the NCAA has granted a waiver for spring sport athletes. If you are a graduating senior this spring and would like to pursue a final season of competition next spring, please contact Lauren Brownrigg, Associate Athletic Director, at brownrigg@pacificu.edu as soon as possible to discuss potential pathways to participate next spring.

Does this cancellation have any impact on fall or winter sport eligibility?

No, the NCAA has only granted waivers to spring sports at this time.

If I am still in Forest Grove can I work out in the Stoller Fitness Center or play basketball in the gym?

No, the entire Stoller Center is closed until further notice. A number of online exercise classes are being offered with free trials to exercise during this time frame. Hanson Stadium track is currently open for running/ walking. Please use appropriate social distancing guidelines. Student-Athletes will be contacted by coaches with recommended train-at-home programs to remain active while away from campus.

As a student-athlete, can I still receive treatment in the athletic training room?

At this time, we have closed the athletic training room, though you may continue to contact head athletic trainer Eric Pitkanen (eric.pitkanen@pacificu.edu) to discuss a plan of rehabilitation from home.

Are coaches still working?

Yes! Even though the Stoller Center is closed, our coaches continue to plan for next year, recruit the next class of Boxers, and stay in regular contact with current student-athletes throughout the duration of our time working from home. It is highly encouraged that student-athletes communicate with teammates and coaches on a regular basis throughout the remainder of the spring semester.
