COVID-19 Operations | Outdoor Pursuits

Outdoor Pursuits is offering outdoor equipment rental services and day trips to Pacific students, and non-students. We ask that you review the other information, including the updated rental reservations, pick up, and return procedures, prior to making a reservation.

We appreciate your patience with this situation, and hope that you are all able to stay active, spend some time in the fresh air, and maintain your health! Outdoor Pursuits Employees Will:

  • Complete the Pacific University Employee Return to Work Training and comply with self-screening requirements.
  • When appropriate, adhere to Pacific Universities’s COVID-19 return to work protocols and policies, including social distancing in the workplace, use of masks and PPE, and proper sanitization.. 
  • Wear cloth masks / facial coverings as required by Oregon state law, Washington County, and Pacific University.
  • Utilize phone reservation systems to pre-pay and limit interactions.
  • Maintain a digital log of all customers, including at a minimum: first name, last name, email address, and telephone information.
  • When necessary, create adequate space for physical distancing while outfitting customers. Use visual markers for reference.
  • When necessary, maintain social distance when issuing equipment and during return process. 

Outdoor Pursuits Curbside Rentals

Rental Reservations and Pick Up

  • While we will continue to rent gear, we encourage you to contact our office and place a gear reservation over the phone at 503-352-2264. When making your reservation you will have the option to prepay for your rental in order to minimize contact during your gear pick up.
  • Once you have made your reservation, you will set up a time for pickup during our available hours. This allows for reservations to be made days in advance. We recommend that you set your pickup time at least 30 minutes after your initial reservation in order for Outdoor Pursuits staff to prepare your gear for curbside pickup.

  • Outdoor pursuits staff will prepare your gear prior to your arrival and print your rental agreement and any waivers you may need.

Rental Returns

  • Outdoor Pursuits staff will instruct you on where to drop your gear, and will process your return. If outstanding balances are noted, the staff will process any final payments.
  • Once the gear return has been processed, staff will clean all gear before it is returned to rental inventory.

Trip Operation

Pre-Trip and Registration

  • Trip registration will be available online via the trips’ Calendar Post on the OP Trip Page. 
  • Participants will be emailed a trip-expectations document containing pertinent information about the trip.
  • Pre-trip meetings will be held in the Milky Way while enforcing social distancing and mask usage when necessary, or meetings may be held virtually when able;
    • Any gear provided to participants should not be shared with others. This gear will be properly cleaned and isolated post use.
  • Participants and trip leaders will be instructed to cancel participation if they experience signs/symptoms of COVID-19 prior to the trip. They can choose to reschedule or be issued a refund with no penalty. Signs & Symptoms of COVID-19 are as follows:

    • Fever or chills
    • Cough
    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • Fatigue
    • Muscle or body aches
    • Headache
    • New loss of taste or smell
    • Sore throat
    • Congestion or runny nose
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Diarrhea
    • In addition, all will acknowledge whether or not they had been in close contact (within 6’ for greater than 15minutes) in the last 14 days with an individual diagnosed with or assumed to have COVID-19.

During the Trip

Leader Responsibilities

  • Provide a clean, sanitary trip making all reasonable efforts to minimize transmission of the virus.
  • Manage and monitor the use of face coverings when necessary.
  • Manage and monitor the social distancing of groups when necessary.
  • Communicate COVID-19 guidelines to participants regarding how they relate to the specific equipment being used.
  • Treat anyone who becomes sick or shows signs and symptoms of an illness with care and respect.

Participant Responsibilities

  • If you’re sick, stay at home. Do not participate and contact the Student Health Center about illness
  • Pack in and out all of your items
  • Follow instructions provided by leaders regarding the management of COVID-19 while on trip
  • Allow Trip Leaders to monitor participant temperature when requested.

Transportation

 
Food 
  • Most trips will require participants to bring their own food and not to share each other's food.

  • Everybody will wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds prior to food preparation, serving, and/or eating.
    • If there is no place to wash your hands, use hand sanitizer.

Post Trip

  • Sanitize/disinfect/wash all gear and other “touchpoints” thoroughly and place in isolation until ready to be inventoried. 

For those who are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19 as defined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), please carefully consider, in conjunction with your healthcare provider, whether to attend Outdoor Pursuits trips at this time.
