Oasis Relaxation Space

Pacific University has a unique relaxation space that is free for students, staff and faculty. The Oasis is located in Clark 124. You can check out a key from the front desk of Clark. You will need to leave your Boxer ID or driver's license to use the space. 



The computer in the Oasis space is equipped with EmWave software, a self-guided biofeedback software that can help you manage stress and anxiety. Biofeedback works by giving you direct feedback about your heart rate, which is a biological indicator of stress. You will learn how to control your heart rate, which will in turn help you control your stress and anxiety. Instructions on the computer program are located in the Oasis manual in the room itself.

goLite Light Therapy Box

The human body uses light cues, such as those provided by the sun, to time certain internal functions. When our circadian rhythm becomes unbalanced, the body produces the wrong hormones, chemicals, and neurotransmitters at the wrong time of the day. The results range from feeling of sadness to sleeplessness as well as loss of appetite. Many people suffer from a loss of energy and mood. For many, these feelings come on stronger in the winter and in darker climates.

BLUEWAVE technology helps shift circadian rhythms back to their normal pattern by delivering a specifically engineered wavelength, color, and intensity of light that stimulates the production of key substances triggered by the brain. BLUEWAVE naturally affects the body by shifting the body clock to its correct timing, causing the proper signals to be produced at the right time of day.

How should I use the goLITE?

The recommended timeframe for use is 30 minutes. This can be every day, or as often as you can fit it in. The light should be 20 to 30 inches from you, and it does not need to shine on your face. It works well on any exposed skin — believe it or not, behind the knees is one of the best! You can move the goLITE over near our massage chair and listen to a relaxation exercise or music while the goLITE is working.

Do I have to take off my glasses when I use the goLITE?

No. This specialized type of light is designed to work with or without glasses.

Are there any major side effects?

The goLITE is safe when used according to recommendations. There have been some reports of temporary headaches or nausea. This is usually resolved by sitting further away from the unit.

Can I get sunburn from using the goLITE?

No. While typical fluorescent bulbs produce small amounts of UV light, BLUEWAVE technology eliminates all UV light that is responsible for sunburns.

iJoy Massage Chair

Our iJoy massage chair emulates the same techniques used by massage and chiropractic professionals for back and spinal care. Sit back, relax and enjoy!

Choose a massage mode to suit your mood. The massage chair lets you customize your massage using a wide variety of massage techniques. You may choose from three stationary massage techniques and a rolling massage, or you can combine them. Use the Position and Zone buttons to target your massage to a specific area, or select one of the three auto massage programs and let the chair take control.

Massage can lower blood pressure, increase circulation, improve and expedite recovery from injury, improve sleep and enhance concentration. Regular massage also stimulates the lymph system — the body’s natural defense against toxic invaders — to help avoid sickness and promote an overall sense of wellbeing. Regular massage relieves stress and contributes to deeper, more restorative sleep, helping improve physical and mental wellness and reduce fatigue.

Short- and long-term stress triggers changes in the body increasing the likelihood of getting sick, raising the risk of serious conditions like high blood pressure and heart disease, and can make problems we already have worse. In fact, some experts believe stress-related tension accounts for 80 to 90 percent of disease. Regular massage in high-end massage chairs puts the mind and body at ease by easing sore muscles, relieving stress and prompting the body to release endorphins, which relieve tension and improve mood.

We recommend that you use the massage chair in conjunction with one of our many relaxation mp3s or soothing music.

Relaxation Audio

Our computer has several relaxation exercises loaded onto its desktop. You may select from recordings to reduce your anxiety, help you relax your muscles, help you visualize a relaxing space, or provide you with positive affirmations to reduce your stress. Simply double click on the icon of your choice, and click play. Most exercises are 20 to 45 minutes in length, and can be combined with the use of our goLITE light therapy system and our iJoy massage chair.

To get maximum benefit from your relaxation practice, we recommend 20 minutes per session, three to five times per week to start. Once you become skilled, you can shorten your practice and use it when necessary. Most people experience relief within three weeks of beginning their practice, if they follow this plan.


Yoga is a mind-body practice in complementary and alternative medicine. Yoga melds physical and mental disciplines to achieve relaxation of body and mind, helping you manage stress and anxiety. Traditional yoga philosophy requires that students adhere to this mission through behavior, diet and meditation. But if you're just looking for better stress management, yoga can still help.

The Oasis is equipped with a yoga mat and space to enjoy your yoga practice. You can use your own poses, or use the video loaded onto the desktop of the computer. This is a beginner program, designed to be accessible to all users.
