Applicants can apply with prerequisites still in progress. Admitted students must provide a final official transcript showing that all prerequisite courses have been completed with a grade of "C" or higher before the intended date of entry.

General Biology

  • One General Biology course with a lab is required.
  • Microbiology with a lab is acceptable.

Human Anatomy and Physiology

  • Year-long series with labs required. Must complete the full sequence offered.
  • This may be satisfied with either a combined series of A&P with labs or separate terms of Anatomy with lab and Physiology with lab.

Physics

  • A standard year of General Physics with labs is required.

Chemistry

  • A standard year of General Chemistry with labs is required.
  • May not be introductory courses such as Introduction to Chemistry or Preparatory Chemistry.

Statistics

  • One course from one of the following departments: Psychology, Sociology, Statistics, or Mathematics.
  • Biostatistics is acceptable.

Psychology

  • Two courses required (a total of 6 semester or 8 quarter credits minimum).
    • One General Psychology and one additional course in psychology.
    • Two upper-division Psychology courses can be accepted.

English or Writing

  • A writing-intensive course offered outside of an English or Writing department may be considered with valid evidence, such as syllabus.

7 Year Science/Statistics Requirement

For applicants applying for the Fall 2027 start term, prerequisite courses must have been completed in Fall 2020 or later.

The PT Admissions Committee evaluates waivers for the 7-year science and statistics prerequisite requirement on a case-by-case basis. Prospective students seeking a waiver should submit the unofficial prerequisite worksheet. Supporting documentation such as unofficial transcripts, resume or CV (if applicable), and a written waiver request (example template) should be uploaded within the unofficial prerequisite worksheet or emailed to PT.AT@pacificu.edu.

AP Credit and IB Credit

AP or IB credits may satisfy prerequisite requirements with qualifying scores. A qualifying score is a 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement test or a 5 or higher on the IB examination. Students must submit the prerequisite worksheet and unofficial transcript for consideration and review by the Admissions Committee.

  • AP or IB credit cannot be used to satisfy both courses in a two course sequence (e.g. general chemistry I and II). Students who have received credit for both courses must complete an additional higher level course to satisfy the prerequisite requirement.
  • The 7-year requirement rule will still apply to science and statistics coursework where AP or IB credits were awarded.

Unofficial Prerequisite Evaluation

Pacific University offers an optional service for candidates who would like their academic history reviewed. Use the PT unofficial prerequisite evaluation to help determine which prerequisites are fulfilled and which courses you may still need to complete for the School of Physical Therapy.
