The November exhibit in the Cawein Gallery of Art features work by Portland artist Sean Healy. Gallery hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Healy will talk about his work and a reception will take place on opening day, Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 4 to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
“My art making practice is rooted in the unconventional use of everyday materials," Healy said.
"These materials are carefully chosen according to their conceptual need. The work in 'Smudge' is fabricated from cigarettes, beer, and ash. It is about vice, the youthful belief in invincibility, and the inevitable consequences of the merging of those two volatile elements.”
Sean Healy grew up in Brasher Falls, a small town in upstate New York. He received his BFA in printmaking and video arts from the School of Art Design at Alfred University. He moved to Portland soon after. Sean is represented by the Elizabeth Leach Gallery in Portland. Healy has exhibited his work actively nationally and internationally.
