Under the direction of Kevin A. Lefohn, the Pacific Philharmonic presents a vibrant program featuring works by Bohemian-born Johann Stamitz and twentieth-century British composers Benjamin Britten and Peter Warlock. Stamitz’s charming Symphony in G Major “Mannheim” showcases the dramatic contrasts and orchestral innovations that helped shape the Classical symphony. Drawing on melodies he composed as a child, Britten’s spirited Simple Symphony, Op. 4, combines playful energy with lyrical warmth, while Warlock’s colorful and fiery Capriol Suite brings the dances of the Renaissance vividly to life through imaginative harmonies and driving rhythms.
Under the direction of Dr. Abbie Brown, the fall Jazz Nite will feature standards from prominent composers in jazz, including Gordon Goodwin, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Sammy Nestico. This concert will also feature works from rising composers in the medium like Paul Baker and Ahmad Jamal, and will feature Funk, Rock, and Latin inspired works. Join us in the love of jazz music for this fun concert!
Greece's Galan Trio performs at Pacific University as part of their Kinesis tour, bringing a program of American composers hailing from the west coast, including Pacific University's faculty member Ryan Francis. Their appearance is underwritten by the Elise Elliot Trust.
Under the direction of Dr. Abbie Brown, the Pacific University Symphonic Band will share their fall concert program “City Trees: Urban and Natural Landscapes.” This concert program allows the ensemble and audience members to be in conversation about the way the natural and urban landscapes interact with one another, and features music that speaks to these two themes.
