On-Campus Residence Hall (Dormitory)

Photo of McCormick Hall.Living with other students as part of the university community provides invaluable opportunities to practice speaking English and fully immerses students in U.S. university experience. Depending on the spaces available in the residence halls, U.S. students are assigned as roommates for international students when possible, as sharing daily life is one of the best means to facilitate cultural exchange.

Semester and academic year students will typically be assigned a room in one of Pacific’s six co-educational campus residence halls (dormitories). All residence halls are conveniently located minutes from classroom buildings and the campus dining center and offer laundry facilities and recreational equipment.

While individual hall rooms will vary in size and shape, each is furnished with a single bed, dresser, mirrors, desks with overhead lights, chairs, bulletin boards, mini-blinds, telephone jacks, computer network connections, smoke detector, closet, and storage spaces. Bedding is available for rent for those visitors staying a semester or less.

Each residence hall is managed by a professional university staff member who typically lives on-site. Student employees assist the professional staff member with building management and student supervision, enabling the university to provide 24-hour support for dormitory residents on all days the university is officially open.

The meal plan for students living in residence halls without kitchen facilities is designed to meet 75% of a student’s needs. The standard meal plan typically includes one buffet meal at dinner five days a week and points that can be spent on additional meals as desired.

Homestay

Students may also choose to live with an American family. All families are carefully screened and selected by Andeo International Homestays, a respected organization with nearly thirty years of experience working with students and host families. Living with a family allows students to experience the American way of life, learn about American culture, share their evening meal in a family setting, and practice English with native speakers every day.

Homestay students are provided a private room, high-speed internet access, a study area, all meals, easy access to public transportation, comprehensive orientation sessions about living with an American family, and 24-hour support from Andeo’s multi-lingual staff. More importantly, homestays allow students to form relationships that typically last long beyond the time spent with their American hosts.
