We look forward to meeting you. Welcome to Pacific!

Dear members of the incoming Boxer class:

Welcome to Pacific University! I look forward to meeting you during Orientation this August and encourage you to take advantage of our Voyages trips scheduled this summer. It's a great way to meet new friends and begin your Pacific experience.

Pacific parents and their student

I'm glad you've chosen Pacific University as the next step in your life's journey. I am confident that your experience here will be a worthwhile one - you'll attain an outstanding education, make lifelong friends and make choices that will benefit you and our world. And I encourage you to personalize your Pacific education. There are numerous opportunities outside of the classroom to enhance your academic studies. Continue to participate in a favorite activity or stretch beyond your boundaries and try something new.

I would also like to introduce you to my office staff Kris Bilderback and Sue Weinbender. If you need to get in touch with me or have a question about the University, they can help you navigate within the community.

Your education at Pacific will be challenging and inspiring. All of the faculty and staff are here to help you to reach your potential, and we're excited your journey is about to begin.

-President Phil Creighton

Understanding the Theme

The theme we chose for orientation is “re:new student orientation.” Although it seems simple, this theme sets an underlying tone for orientation and refers to one of the key values at Pacific University: sustainability. The university has devoted itself to preserving its culture by becoming an avid supporter of sustainable living. This can be shown through the four LEED certified buildings found on our campus, programming to increase awareness about the environment, and requesting that all departments work harder to erase their carbon footprint.

In keeping with the university’s commitment, the orientation team decided to join in by altering how we run our program. You will notice that most, if not all, of our materials given out during orientation will be printed on recycled paper and processed in a chemical-free printing system; we will be referring to online resources rather than printing out a brochure; many of the meals during orientation will be made from organic foods. To get you excited about sustainability, we will be bringing Doug Fine, an author and journalist who gave up his life in New York to live modestly on a ranch in New Mexico. In our own way, we are renewing our orientation program in hopes that you will consider living a sustainable life and add to the environmentally friendly community that makes us proud to be a Boxer!
