Welcome!

The social work major at Pacific University focuses on the applied study of generalist social work practice within the liberal arts framework. Coursework draws from several disciplines including psychology and sociology. Students who major in social work develop the introductory skills necessary to work with individuals, families and small groups at the micro level of practice while also gaining experience addressing social problems at the macro level of practice. Course work in the major consistently explores human diversity, cultural awareness and the oppression of marginalized groups. Graduates are prepared for entry level generalist practice in a variety of settings as well as being prepared for graduate study.

Pacific’s Social Work Program is named the Claire Angevin Argow Social Work Program. A recipient of the Outstanding Women of Oregon Award, Argow was a pioneer among women and a tireless advocate for social justice. Use the link to the left to read more about Claire Argow.

We are an active and growing major. We welcome your interest in social work and encourage you to take a few minutes to explore our course offerings and meet our faculty. The links to the left should help you with your initial investigation.
