Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

Program Highlights

  • Pair English language instruction with any undergraduate major offered on the Forest Grove Campus
  • Prepare to teach English overseas or in various educational settings
  • Combine the TESOL minor with an education and learning degree in the College of Education for potential ESOL endorsement


The TESOL minor choose language courses in French, Chinese, Spanish, German or Japanese. Students who already have foreign language proficiency in one of these languages may choose to complete cultural studies courses instead. In addition, students complete core course requirements in the foundations of teaching English to speakers of other langauges.


Students in the College of Arts & Sciences or College of Business who complete the TESOL major have a strong foundation for graduate programs in TESOL and are prepared to teach English overseas or in various educational settings. College of Education students who are completing the minor along with their undergraduate teaching degree may qualify for endorsement in ESOL at the K-12 level.
