MAT One-Year Program
For individuals seeking a master’s degree and Oregon Preliminary Teaching License with a middle or high school single-subject endorsement.
MAT Two-Year Program
For individuals seeking a master’s degree and Oregon Preliminary Teaching License with an elementary multiple-subject endorsement or for those wanting to teach middle/high school who would like a part-time pace or to pursue two endorsements.
MAT Arbor Teacher Residency Program (admits cohorts every other year)
For individuals seeking a master's degree and Oregon Preliminary Teaching License with an elementary multiple-subject endorsement and/or foundational single-subject endorsement at the independent Arbor School located in Tualatin, Oregon.
Admissions Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree:
- From an accredited college or university
- Your degree must be complete before you begin MAT coursework
- GPA
- Minimum undergraduate of 2.75, or 3.0 in at least eight semester hours of graduate study
- Experience with Children or Youth
- Experience in a school setting preferred.
- Academic Prerequisites:
- Elementary: Coursework in math, science, writing, literature, history, cross-cultural studies, music, and art.
- Middle & High School: Coursework should reflect strong preparation in the subject area you plan to teach (bachelor degree in your chosen content area or significant coursework in your chosen content area)
- Completed GradCAS Application: Your online application will include transcripts, two references, a résumé, and a TSPC character questionnaire.

MAT Two-Year Program:
Early Deadline: April 1
Final Deadline: July 1
MAT Arbor Program:

How to Apply
Step 1: Create a GradCAS Account

Pacific University uses the GradCAS online system to process MAT applications. Be sure to select the correct application link based on your intended start date.
MAT 1 Year: Summer 2026 Cohort-Middle/High School Single Subjects Only
MAT 2 Year: Fall 2026 Cohort-All Subjects
Arbor MAT 2 Year: Fall 2026 Cohort-Elementary and Foundational Single Subjects
Step 2: Prepare and Upload the Following in GradCAS
- Transcripts
Official transcripts ordered and sent to GradCAS from all colleges/universities attended. - Two References
Contact information for two people who can speak to your ability to work with PreK–12 students. They will be emailed a form to fill out. - Résumé, which should include:
- Employment history
- Licenses or certifications
- Experience with school-age children or youth
- Education background
- TSPC Character Questionnaire
- Required for all applicants.
- English Language Proficiency
- A satisfactory command of the English language is required. Applies to all non-native English speakers, including U.S. permanent residents and citizens.
- Application Fee: $38 (non-refundable)
