Leadership and Mentorship Training
Compass gives graduate and undergraduate health-professions students hands-on experience as leaders and mentors. You will take the lead on OHWI-AHEC-supported activities and gain valuable experience in building community and practicing skills vital to your career goals.
Spring Term Mentor Program
- Mentors are graduate students in any health profession education program who offer leadership and guidance to undergraduate students (mentees) pursuing their path into healthcare.
- There is one mandatory virtual training video for mentors and one for mentees.
How the Mentor Program Works
- Attend Lectures: Mentor groups attend a monthly, virtual, 90-minute lecture or speaker panel. The lectures serve as an opportunity for mentor groups to think of discussion topics for your meetings and make professional connections. Mentors and mentees learn about healthcare careers from practicing professionals in diverse fields.
- Get Career Advice: Mentees put together their resume, statement of intent (for a job or graduate program) and a job shadow plan to elicit feedback from their mentor.
- Meet Monthly: Mentors and mentees have monthly discussions about the lectures, career packets or any other advice the mentee needs. The true goal of the mentor program is connection and fellowship while on a long and challenging education and career path. As long as both of you are connecting, the discussion topics can be whatever you need most from your mentor and community!
Undergrads can still apply to be a mentee!
