Old College Hall Open House

Description

All are welcome to experience the architecture and stories of Pacific University by visiting one of the oldest collegiate buildings in the western United States. Old College Hall, built in 1850, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and houses museum galleries that provide a window into the early days of the institution.

Highlights of the museum include the opportunity to explore the life of Tabitha Brown, a university founder who has been recognized as the Mother of Oregon for her work establishing an orphanage and school for pioneer children. Another featured display highlights the achievements of A.C. Gilbert, an alumnus and Olympic gold medalist who gained fame as the inventor of the Erector Set. These exhibits showcase personal items and historical objects that illustrate the unique contributions of individuals who shaped the history.

Pacific University appreciates the dedicated volunteers from the Friends of Historic Forest Grove who staff the museum during these hours to share information about the building and support ongoing local preservation projects.
