Testing Accommodations

To schedule exams with extended time:

After your instructors have received the LSS Accommodation Report, discuss with your professor your need for extra time on exams and any other information that you think will be helpful to them. Determine with your instructor if an extended time exam is best administered by them, or by LSS.

For example:

  • Some professors like you to go in early for a "head start" on the exam or may be willing to stay longer after the class
  • Some professors will be able to have a separate room which they can monitor while administering the exam to the class
  • You or your professor may prefer you come to the Learning Support Services Office and have us administer the exam
    • Be sure to arrange this with us at least a week in advance so that we're sure to have a room for you!

If you plan to take your exams at LSS, it is wise to let your instructor(s) know at the start of the semester.   To schedule an exam to be administered at the LSS office, call, email, or stop by the LSS office to give Gratia the dates and times of your upcoming exams.  Gratia or Kim will email a reminder notice to you and your professor a week or so before each exam scheduled to be taken in LSS.

To take Exams on a Computer

If you have dysgraphia or visual/motor problems, this accommodation can be very helpful. Even if it is mentioned on the LSS Accommodation Report that was sent to your professors, remind your professors a week before the exam (two weeks in the case of finals) about this accommodation.

  • The professor may prefer that you take the exam near the classroom, which is fine
  • However, s/he may prefer that you take it in the LSS office
  • Be sure to arrange this with us at least a week in advance so that we're sure to have a room and a computer for you!  Gratia or Kim will email a reminder notice to you and your professor a week or so before each exam scheduled to be taken in LSS.

To Take an Exam in an Isolated Room to Avoid Distraction

Even if this accommodation is mentioned on the LSS Accommodation Letter that was sent to your professor, you should make arrangements for each exam at least one week in advance.

  • The professor may prefer that you take the exam near the classroom, which is fine
  • However, s/he or you may prefer that you take it in the LSS office
  • For exams to be administered at the LSS office, please schedule the exam day and time with us at least a week in advance so that we're sure to have a room for you!  Gratia or Kim will email a reminder notice to you and your professor a week or so before each exam scheduled to be taken in LSS.
