EyeVan | Optometry Community Outreach
The Pacific University College of Optometry believes in the importance of access to eye care for all people. Our optometry students put this belief into action through clinical training experiences in the community outreach program.
Our program strives to lower the barriers to care to the most vulnerable members of our community and educate the public on the importance of regular eye care. The Optometry Community Outreach Team focuses on two main programs:
- Pediatric vision screenings at local elementary schools
- Comprehensive dilated vision exams on our mobile clinic, the EyeVan, for low income and under-insured community members
Our EyeVan program would not be possible without the help of our community partners. We currently work with over thirty different organizations in the greater Portland area who host clinics and assist in the scheduling and follow up care of EyeVan participants. We collaborate with a wide range of organizations, including community health centers, faith-based organizations, groups working with migrant workers, organizations assisting people experiencing homelessness and groups focused on survivors of domestic violence.
Our Community Outreach Team consists of optometrists on faculty at Pacific, including attending optometrist Dr. Carol Rymer and most importantly, our incredible optometry students.
If your organization in interested in becoming a community partner, please contact Dr. Carol Rymer, Community Outreach EyeVan Coordinator at rymercz@pacificu.edu.
Please note at this time we do not provide eye care services or glasses on an individual basis. However, our brick and mortar Pacific EyeClinics do offer a sliding fee scale to make eye care more affordable.
