Jewls is the Director of the Office of Accessibility and Accommodations at Pacific University where she oversees disability services and the accommodations process while also collaborating with partners from across campus in our proactive efforts to make Pacific a warm, welcoming, and accessible environment for the entire Boxer community and the public. Prior to finding her home at Pacific, Jewls was the Assistant Director of Accessible Education Services at Willamette University, primarily at Pacific Northwest College of Art. She has also worked at the Linfield University School of Nursing in 2022. She spent over nine years working as an Access Counselor and Consultant at the Disability Resource Center at Portland State University where she developed new programs, notably with services for low vision and training for student workers. Throughout these varied institution and discipline types, Jewls has has enjoyed finding creative, sometimes unique approaches to meeting student needs while emphasizing the whole student and their agency above all. She is particularly invested in rooting out disparities and barriers to access, at all levels of the student experience, including our own services. Jewls served on the Board of Directors of the Oregon Affiliate of the Association of Higher Education and Disability (ORAHEAD) for the past nine years including as President for three years 2022-2025. Jewls is a frequent presenter at both regional and national professional conferences on many topics related to her field generally focused on progressive service delivery, universal design, and intersectionality. Jewls received her Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling from PSU in 2008 and is a PhD candidate in Adult and Higher Education at Oregon State University. Her doctoral work focuses on international and immigrant students with disabilities, disability identity, and intersectionality. Prior to coming to Portland State University, Jewls had a private counseling practice and served as a commissioner on the city of Portland Commission on Disability. In her spare time, Jewls enjoys the outdoors, art, and theater, especially when shared with her family including her wife and two adult kids. She also shares her office with her service dog, Rizzo, who she secretly thinks is a just a "person in a dog suit".
