Practice/Research Interests

Kris Marcus, BSPharm, FOSHP, is Professor Emerita and a founding faculty member of the Pacific University School of Pharmacy. Her primary areas of expertise include drug information, evidence-based practice and critical appraisal, formulary management and drug policy, medication-use evaluation, pharmacy administration, and postgraduate pharmacy training.

Prior to joining Pacific University, Marcus spent 20 years in health-system pharmacy practice at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). Her experience included direct patient care as well as work in drug information, formulary management, institutional guideline development, medication-use evaluation, provider education, and staff development. She served for eight years as OHSU’s PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program Director, helped establish and precept the PGY2 Drug Information Residency, and contributed to the development of OHSU’s PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency.

At Pacific University, Marcus taught broadly across the PharmD curriculum, with particular emphasis on drug information and literature evaluation, evidence-based practice, clinical problem solving, pharmacy administration, and personal and professional development. She also led the School’s Pharmacy Residency Preparedness Program and contributed to curriculum development, assessment, preceptor development, and postgraduate training.

As Professor Emerita, Marcus remains actively involved with the School and profession through textbook and chapter authorship, mentoring faculty and learners, and resident and preceptor development. Her ongoing scholarly and educational interests include evidence synthesis, critical appraisal of the medical literature, pharmacy education, residency training, and preceptor development.

Marcus has been active in the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, American College of Clinical Pharmacy, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, and Oregon Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Her professional contributions have included policy development, publications, presentations, residency education, and leadership activities. She was recognized as a Fellow of the Oregon Society of Health-System Pharmacists (FOSHP) in 2015.

Outside the Classroom

Marcus enjoys travel, hiking and outdoor activities, gardening, baking, reading, and exploring Portland’s food and cultural scene. She especially values time with family and friends and the opportunity in retirement to pursue new adventures, continue learning, and find meaningful ways to serve her community and profession.
