What is your hometown?

Portland, Oregon

What hobbies, sports, or interests light you up?

I loveeee hiking, fishing, and going for fun adventures outdoors!! I'm also huge bookworm and love cozying up with a good movie when the weather's too bad.

What is your specialty as a tutor? What topic, problem, subject, or process do you most enjoy helping students to learn?

I enjoy helping students the most with stoichiometry! Especially in first semester of gen chem, it is so, so rewarding to learn the process/concept overall; when you can see someone understand *how* to do problems like this instead of knowing what the method is, it's so satisfying to watch everything click and fall into place with it!

Which of the CLASS 5 Keys – Respect, Inclusion, Growth, Support, and Pizzazz - resonates with you the most and how do you put it into practice in your work as a tutor?

I'll always be big on pizzazz before anything else. For science subjects especially, it can get rough and frustrating to work on sometimes; homework seems impossible, concepts are difficult to understand, and it's easy to lose that passion/motivation to keep learning. If I can bring some pizzaz, even just enough to make the students I work with laugh a little while we work or celebrate when they get a new concept down, then I'm happy with the work we did together.

What is your best advice for students on how to get the most out of their academic experience in college?

I think this applies for everything, but especially in academics--- do it. You're going to be tired, and frustrated, and sick of studying sometimes, but that should never stop you from doing what you came here to do. Take care of yourself, take breaks, but just keep doing it. Show up to class every day you're able to, do the extra homework, go to office hours (even if all you do it get to know your professor more), ask about research, new opportunities, extra resources... do it! Do it scared, do it slowly, do it however way works for you, but do it.

Give us a movie quotation, song lyric, or line from a book that will motivate us in our learning.
