Sancler is an internationally trained occupational therapist and immigrant with over 26 years of experience as an OTR across acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, and skilled nursing settings. He is deeply committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and believes that diversity enriches perspectives, drives innovation, and strengthens communities.

His teaching and scholarship are grounded in evidence-based practice, occupational justice, Brazilian Social Occupational Therapy, and cultural humility. His current research, supported by a Faculty Development Grant, is a community-based participatory study exploring values, belonging, and occupational identity in adaptive scuba diving. He recently authored a cover feature in OT Practice on operationalizing cultural humility under the 2025 AOTA Code of Ethics.

He earned his post-professional doctoral in occupational therapy from Columbia University. He also has a master's degree in business administration from Florida International University and a B.Sc. in occupational therapy from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Sancler serves on the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) Board of Directors and chairs the OTAO DEI-JAB Committee. Outside of work, he enjoys time with friends and family, exploring new places, and the quiet company of his dog, Pepper.
