For more than twenty-five years, Scot Dobberfuhl has designed innovative curriculum for international students working toward proficiency in the English language. Students who complete his courses are prepared for demanding collegiate degree programs as well as successful use of spoken and written English in their professional careers.
As Program Director for the English Language Institute at Pacific University, Scot has fostered and maintained relationships with international higher education exchange partners in several countries, including Japan, Saudi Arabia, and China. He has advised international students studying at Pacific on immigration regulations and mentors them as they participate in the university's rich culture and vibrant local community.
In order to enhance intercultural learning and global networking for all students on campus, he collaborates with undergraduate faculty members across disciplines in the strategic and supported inclusion of international students in their courses. His contributions to short-term travel opportunities offered at Pacific include co-administrating and co-teaching a popular travel writing in Italy course.
Prior to leading the English Language Institute, Scot was a visiting professor of English at Sichuan University in China and Bilkent University in Turkey. He has taught research and technical writing at Mississippi State University, University of Colorado-Denver, and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
His love of languages and the international learning experience began when as an undergraduate he studied Norwegian language and literature at the Rogaland Distriktshøgskole in Norway. He has a Master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's graduate program in Rhetoric, Professional Writing, and Community Engagement.
