ACA and OEDI Present Inclusive Hiring Week: Career Readiness Through the Lens of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

The Academic and Career Advising Center (ACA) understands that it can be challenging for students to navigate their professional career in an ever-changing, diverse workforce. How can students discover if their values align with potential employers? Where can they start when it comes to a persuasive resume and cover letter? Is it possible for students to combat implicit bias in their job search? How can students gain confidence in negotiating salary, benefits and raises?

In collaboration with the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, the Center for Gender Equity and the Student Multicultural Center, the ACA invites students to attend the first annual Inclusive Hiring Week from Feb. 21 to 25.

Each day, students will have the opportunity to participate in workshops on key career readiness skills through the lens of diversity, equity and inclusion. This week-long event will empower students in their professional career journey by celebrating their unique identities, advocating for themselves and preparing them for a diverse workforce.

Academic advisors know that this first-of-its-kind career event at Pacific University will be invaluable and prepare current, graduating and newly graduated students for the upcoming Post-Graduation Work Fair on March 3, 2022.

Students should register on Handshake to secure their free meal during each session.

ACA encourages all faculty and student supervisors to invite your students to sign up for sessions (students may attend one or all 15 sessions) and offer credit or paid time for participation. Session facilitators will track attendance for each day and can provide you this information for credit. Student workers should clock into Paycom during their participation in workshops. Use this template invitation to send to your students.

While most of the workshops are in person at the Multipurpose Room and Boxer Pause, some events are virtual on Zoom. Learn how to build your resume and cover letter, boost your interview skills, and more!

Topics include:

  • How to Investigate an Employer with a DEI Lens
  • Discrimination and Harassment in the Workplace
  • Negotiate Your Benefits and Salary with Confidence
  • Navigating the Hiring Process as a DACA Recipient

Check out the full schedule and register directly on Handshake to the specific workshop(s) you plan to attend. Students may also drop by Scott 129 to register.
