Conserve Energy and Reduce Fire Hazards Over Winter Break

Help eliminate phantom loads and unnecessary energy consumption before you head out for winter break. Look around your work area, whether on campus or at home, and check for electrical devices that are not always in use. These electrical devices are potential energy drains.

While on vacation or any other time away from the office, shop, lab, classroom, home or residence hall, there is the opportunity to eliminate wasted energy, money and risks of damage or harm.

Even devices plugged in, but not in use, can drain a considerable amount of energy over time and have the potential of causing a fire, especially in older homes and buildings. Please help ensure that Pacific University is doing its part in energy conservation.

Here are some ways to prevent phantom loads:

  • Turned off lights
  • Unplug appliances (Coffee makers, heaters, microwaves, clocks, radios, lamps)
  • Unplug computers and chargers
  • Unplug copy machines
