A Message from the Dean | College of Business Summer 2018

As I reflect on my first full year here at Pacific University, it is great to see how much we have accomplished. We had the largest number of majors in the Forest Grove undergraduate class of May 2018. Commencement was a wonderful ceremony where the university honored both our graduates along with our honorary degree recipient, Tommy Thayer of the iconic rock band KISS.

Many of our graduates — like Monica Krubeck — are going on to great jobs. With the help of our Placement Officer Wanda Frazier, we are building relationships with a number of employers in the Northwest. We’ll have more to report on our internships in the fall edition of this newsletter.

In a new “Professor for a Day” program, we are starting to bring more outside speakers to campus to speak to our students about business strategies of local employers. Brent Beeson of Columbia Sportswear was our inaugural speaker this Spring. We continue working with our students in the Business Club to increase student engagement, promote our events and opportunities, and bring interesting speakers to our business classes.

We are continuing our marketing efforts as we seek to build up our college and especially our graduate programs.  Perhaps you have heard our MBA announcements on NPR, or seen our ads in publications from the Alaska Airlines in-flight magazine to the Portland Business Journal.  This summer you can even see us at the stadium of our local Hillsboro Hops baseball team!

As this year ends we are definitely looking ahead to a new era at our College of Business. I’d like to thank everyone involved with our college – students, faculty, staff as well as our alums, Executive Council members, corporate sponsors and community supporters – who have made this year such a successful one.

We encourage you to keep in touch and learn more about what makes business at Pacific University so special.
