Pacific Applauds Ruling Upholding DACA

We applaud and celebrate this morning’s ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Since the DACA program began in 2012, we have witnessed the critical benefits it has brought to our students at Pacific University and to our learning community as a whole. The DACA students and friends I have been privileged to know personally are among the most thoughtful, hard-working and determined young people I know.

Oregon is home to more than 11,000 DACA recipients, 1,000 here in Washington County and several in our Pacific community. With DACA, many students and alumni have been able to pursue professional careers in business, education, health professions, nonprofit organizations, and high-tech firms; they have gone to medical school, law school and entered many other graduate programs.

To our DACA students and alumni: We support you and honor your accomplishments. You make our community stronger, and we stand by you.

Warmest regards,

Lesley M. Hallick
