Scholarships Available Through Institute for Mexicans Abroad Program

IME scholarship signing ceremony

A collaboration between Pacific University and the Mexican Consulate of Oregon has resulted in a $17,000 scholarship (beca) fund for students born in Mexico. Ten eligible students will receive scholarship awards worth $1,700 each, which may be used towards tuition and books. Funds have been provided by Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior (IME), (The Institute for Mexicans Abroad), and Pacific University in collaboration with the Mexican Consulate.

“The scholarship creates an opportunity to remove some financial barriers to higher education, which allows students to focus on pursuing their degree,” said Narce Rodriguez, Pacific’s vice president for Student Affairs and chief equity, diversity, and inclusion officer. “DACA students don’t qualify for federal financial aid and have fewer scholarship opportunities available to them.”

The IME scholarship seeks to support undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate a commitment to advocacy or service that benefits the Mexican immigrant population. Applicants must be enrolled full-time at Pacific, maintain a  minimum 2.5 GPA during fall semester, and demonstrate financial need.
