School of Pharmacy: Spring 2023 Student Spotlight

Take a look at a Q&A regarding what P1’s thought about this year’s Residency Night event!

We asked two P1’s for their points of view and here’s what they said:

Where do you see yourself after you graduate? (i.e. doing a residency, working right away)

  1. “I see myself doing a residency after graduating.”
  2. “I hope to begin a pediatric residency soon after graduation.”

What field(s) of pharmacy are you interested in right now?

  1. “I am currently interested in ambulatory care or working in a hospital setting.”
  2. “I’m mostly interested in pediatrics and possibly ambulatory care, but I’ve also considered geriatrics.”

How was your experience of the residency night as a P1?

  1. “I really enjoyed residency night, as I found a new interest in infectious diseases afterwards. During the first few weeks of my IPPE, I found a greater interest in infectious diseases as well, but I will still need to do more research into it. I plan to go on an APPE rotation specialized in infectious diseases to gain a better understanding about it. However, I still have a lot to learn about all the other different pharmacy opportunities out there and hope to pursue an oncology rotation as well. Residency night was helpful in learning about the journey other students have gone through in terms of qualifications when applying to residency, what programs look for in an applicant, and what students should be looking for when applying to a residency.”
  2. “It was really insightful! I 100% recommend students to go to residency night if they are considering applying for a residency, or even just curious to learn more about it.”

What is one thing you took away from residency night that you think would be helpful to your fellow peers who didn’t go?

  1. “One thing I took away from residency night that I think would be helpful to my peers who did not attend the event would be to get a good look at how the current Residents look to judge how stressful/tiring/manageable their program is.”
  2. “One common theme I noticed with the residents that came in and spoke was to be curious and active. It helps you narrow down what you’re good at and get experience, as well as solid connections within that field. Just come to the next residency night event! It was worth it.”
