Pacific Scholarships in Mathematics and Sciences (PSiMS)

Pacific University will award scholarships to new and returning students who commit to majoring in science or mathematics. Scholarships are renewable for up to four years for students in good standing. The scholarships are funded by the National Science Foundation and are for students with financial need who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. At Pacific students must major in one of these fields: biology, chemistry, computer science, environmental science, mathematics, or physics. 

The complete application requires the following:

  • Complete and submit the online scholarship application that includes two essays. Essay topics are 1) Motivation and future plans for studying a math or science discipline and 2) Overcoming an obstacle to achieve a personal goal. 
  • Submit the names and email addresses of three references: 1) A science instructor; 2) A math instructor; 3) A third reference of the applicant's choice.
  • Complete and Submit an application for admission (commonapp.org) to Pacific University, to include submission of all required transcripts and test scores (ACT/SAT).
  • Complete and Submit a Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA.ed.gov) and include Pacific University's school code (003212).

A faculty committee will review the applications and will invite finalists to either an on-campus or web-based interview. APPLY ASAP! New first-year student applications are due February 15, 2018. Applications from new transfer and returning Pacific University students are due March 15, 2018.

The scholarship recipients will receive up to $5900 in addition to other sources of financial aid, and will become a part of a cohort of science and math students given opportunities to explore career options in science and mathematics fields.
