Tips for attending the in-person fair:

  • Research who will be there. Review the most recent list of employers attending the fair on Handshake. No need to internet stalk them, just narrow it down to some businesses that you are willing to work for. Select 3-7 businesses to talk to, this will help you better navigate the fair.
  • Dress to impress. It's all about the first impressions! Clothes should be in good condition, clean and wrinkle and lint free. Check out this cool guide on how to dress for success!
  • Prepare a few talking points. The employers that you meet with want to learn more about you. So think of an “elevator pitch” about yourself — a short overview about your background, studies, and career goals. Practice with a friend or family member so you’re ready when it’s time to introduce yourself to a recruiter.
  • Come up with some universal questions and be prepared for small talk. Asking people about their day, their work and what they are looking for in a candidate may sound tedious but it is guaranteed to make you seem like a polite person and a good candidate. If there are any places from your research that seem particularly enthralling, develop more questions for them to really demonstrate your interest. Have a pen and paper nearby so you can jot down new questions that you think of during the conversation.
