CETCI Spring Learning Community - Exploring a Pedagogy of Kindness

Description

As educators we want our teaching to be many things: effective, engaging, inclusive, equitable. What if it could also be kind? What if kindness–as a philosophy and a practice–could serve as a framework for pulling together pedagogical best practices that help us teach transparently and inclusively, engage and center students, and foster community and belonging? What if that framework could help us situate our teaching work within self-care practices that support us in setting boundaries, balancing work with rest and restoration, and building flourishing lives? Join us in the CETCI Spring Learning Community to explore the possibilities–for our students and ourselves–of cultivating a pedagogy of kindness. This learning community will draw from Catherine Denial’s book, A Pedagogy of Kindness (free ebook), as well as literature about inclusive teaching, reflective practice, self-compassion, and well-being.

We will gather for four 90-minute conversations over four consecutive Tuesday afternoons (3:30-5:00 pm), starting March 31 and ending April 21. Participants can attend in-person in the Tran Library or via zoom. Readings, resources, and additional asynchronous engagement opportunities will be available through a companion Moodle site. Reading selected chapters from A Pedagogy of Kindness before each conversation will enrich participants’ experiences, but is not required. Register : https://pacificu.libcal.com/event/16493997
