Feeding the Soul: Food and Art in Beloved Community

Description

Although Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a Pacific University holiday, we encourage you to think of it as a "a day on, not a day off'. This National Day of Service was established over 30 years ago to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King, and to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.

A wide variety of events and gatherings will happen in the Portland Metro area for MLK Day - find one that resonates with you in our campus guide. Then, plan to join us in the University Center for a day-after gathering on Tuesday, January 20th!

Feeding the Soul: Food and Art in Beloved Community
Tuesday, January 20 | 11:30am - 2:00pm
University Center (Forest Grove campus)

Everyone is invited! Drop-in any time between 11:30am-2pm. We will have food, drinks, and two hands-on activities in the spirit of Beloved Community:

  • Write for Rights. Every year, Amnesty International’s Write for Rights campaign brings people from around the world together to fight for justice and dignity. All resources will be provided for you to write your own letter(s) in support of 8 individuals - many of who are on the front lines of climate change and environmental destruction - whose human rights have been violated.
  • Beloved Community Zines. Learn about Dr. King’s 6 principals of nonviolent social change and create your own zine and/or contribute your words and art in a collective zine making process that celebrates Beloved Community. Zines are small but mighty, turning radical ideas into tangible, shared experiences - we’re excited to see what we can create together!

This event is brought to you by the McCall Center for Civic Engagement, the Student Multicultural Center, and the VP of Strategic Initiatives. Is you have questions, please don’t hesitate to email mcce@pacificu.edu.
