Field Trip with ISA to Yakona Nature Preserve
The Indigenous Student Alliance is hosting a field trip to Yakona Nature Preserve in Newport. Vans will leave the Forest Grove campus at 7 a.m. on Oct. 17, 2026 and will return around 6 p.m. The drive to the preserve will take approximately 2.5 hours.
Once we arrive, Executive Director Dr. Natalie Schaefer will take us on a 2-hour hiking tour of the nature preserve and talk about the Traditional Ecological Knowledge and scientific preservation that sustains Yakona's vision to "protect, preserve, and enhance the cultural and natural history of Oregon's central coast spruce habitat and its wildlife through the arts, education, and stewardship."
Bring water and a bag lunch. Wear long pants and long sleeves to protect yourself from mosquitoes. Be prepared for cold and rainy conditions. Wear shoes with good tread, as the trails may be slippery. Expect elevation loss/gain of 250-300' multiple times along the trail. As this is an interpretive experience, expect to stop multiple times to learn about the cultural and natural history of the area.
Only 22 seats available!
All events are listed in Pacific time zone unless otherwise noted.
