  • Undergraduate Faculty
    •  Invite a peer tutor to visit your class or group. 
      Peer tutors will be happy to visit your classroom or group meeting. Peer tutors will talk with students about how using CLASS services can help them feel confident in their ability to learn. Visits include a walkthrough of the scheduling process and a guide to what to expect from a typical session. A tutor visit is a great way to help demystify tutoring, especially for new or apprehensive students. 

      To request a visit please complete the tutor visit request form. 
    •  Add information about CLASS to your syllabus.
      Encourage your students to use CLASS resources by including language in your syllabus that describes tutoring and explains how to participate.

      The Center for Learning and Student Success (CLASS) offers free peer tutoring to students in person on the second floor of the Tran Library on the Forest Grove campus as well as online. 

      CLASS aims to improve student success by providing a welcoming environment where students can work toward their academic goals with peer support. Peer tutors can help you develop effective learning and studying strategies and provide you with guidance in understanding course concepts and solving problems. 

      Peer tutoring is for all students, regardless of skill level. You can use peer tutoring whether you are already earning high grades, struggling to keep up, or anywhere in between. All are welcome.

    •  Collaborate with CLASS.

    •  Use handouts to promote engagement.
      Faculty and staff may distribute informational handouts to students as needed to orient students to tutoring and to help manage expectations for what CLASS peer support can do. The handouts provide general tutoring information and explain what tutors can help with. If you would like any materials customized for your subject area or course, please reach out to Cari Brooks at CariBrooks@pacificu.edu.
    •  Recommend potential tutors.
      Do you have a student that you’d like to recommend as a tutor? Tutor hiring for each academic year takes place during the prior spring semester on an as-needed basis. If you would like to recommend a student for a tutoring position, please complete the official tutor recommendation form. 

      A faculty recommendation does not guarantee that a student will be hired, but is a critical factor in the selection process. Students recommended by faculty are invited to apply for available positions during the application period each spring along with other applicants. All applicants hired for tutoring positions are required to obtain a faculty recommendation for each course they wish to tutor for, must have completed each course with a grade of B or higher, and are required to formally apply and interview for the position.
