The Pacific University School of Pharmacy welcomed its first class in Fall 2006.
Today, our average class size is 98 students, who complete a three-year program resulting in a doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) degree.
The school is located at Pacific University’s Hillsboro Campus, alongside several other graduate and professional programs, including several in the health professions. This is a rich and diverse learning environment where accomplished faculty focus on giving students opportunities to interact and collaborate across disciplines.
Our competency-based curriculum (pdf) includes courses delivered in a modified block design. The structure provides a schedule that allows students to study one topic at a time before moving on to another content area. This method of education allows students to master each topic with a high level of mastery and promotes the integration of concepts in a planned and sequential manner.
The competency-based design encourages teamwork and collaboration among students and removes the competitive nature characteristic of many professional programs.
Team teaching by our faculty and use of technology further enhance our students’ experience at the Pacific University School of Pharmacy.
As part of their education, students also complete experiential components of the curriculum throughout their first and second didactic years. The third year is devoted entirely to advanced clinical experience.
The Pacific University School of Pharmacy is committed to creating an educational environment that is free from intolerance directed toward individuals or groups. We strive to create and maintain an environment that fosters respect for others.
As a health science educational institution, the school has a mandate to address problems of a society deeply ingrained with bias and prejudice. To that end, and through the Office of Student Affairs, the school provides opportunities for educational programs and activities to create an environment in which the diversity and understanding of other cultures is valued.
The school does not discriminate on the basis of sex, physical or mental disability, race, color, national origin, sexual orientation, age, religious preference, or disabled veteran or Vietnam era status.
