ASHP Midyear Meeting

Pacific University School of Pharmacy was proudly represented at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Clinical Meeting, held December 6 - 10, 2025 in Las Vegas, NV at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.  This meeting is one of the largest and most influential professional gatherings for pharmacy students, residents, and practitioners nationwide.

Our second-year students enrolled in the accelerated three-year PharmD pathway, Luka and Rachel, served as Pacific University's representatives in the highly competitive national Clinical Skills Competition, demonstrating strong clinical reasoning, teamwork, and professionalism on a national stage.  In addition, several P3 students attended the Residency Showcase, where they connected with residency programs from across the country.  They refined their priorities, gathered key information, and had valuable opportunities to speak with current residents, helping them prepare and complete their residency applications, which are due within the two to four weeks, depending on the program.  The meeting also provided an important opportunity for our recent alumni - now PGY1 residents - to explore potential PGY2 training pathways while reconnecting with Pacific faculty and classmates.

The School was represented by Prof. Kris Marcus (Pharmacy Residency Program Coordinator), Dr. Ryan Gibbard (Chair, Pharmacy Practice), Dr. Nathan Doctor (Assistant Professor, Pharmacy Practice), and Dean Marketa Marvanova.  Throughout the meeting, faculty remained highly visible and accessible, offering mentorship, encouragement, and practical support to students and alumni navigating the fast-paced Midyear environment.  Dean Marvanova was often stationed nearby with snacks and conversation, creating a welcoming space for students to regroup between meetings and preparations for the Residency Showcase.  A special thank-you goes to Prof. Marcus for unwavering dedication and leadership in supporting students pursuing residency training.

Pacific University School of Pharmacy was also well represented academically, with students and faculty presenting five poster presentations, alongside additional posters and sessions delivered by alumni currently completing PGY1 residencies.  The conference offered rich opportunities for continuing education and professional development, including presentations by Pacific alumni on timely and innovative topics such as artificial intelligence and investigational drug research (Lis Janssen Carlson, CO2014), clinical applications of pharmacogenomics (Halle Brady, CO2023), and surface sampling in hazardous compounding environments (Shannon ASHP Midyear MeetingBuxell, CO2014).

Beyond formal programming, the meeting fostered meaningful networking and community engagement.  Pacific faculty, students, and alumni connected with pharmacy professionals from across the Pacific Northwest and beyond, highlighted by a well-attended Pacific Northwest Reception that strengthened professional relationships and celebrated shared experiences.

We are proud of our students, alumni, and faculty for exemplifying the excellence, professionalism, and collaborative spirit of Pacific University School of Pharmacy at ASHP Midyear.
