Exciting Changes Coming to Pacific Hall in 2023

Pacific University is excited to share a construction update which will improve the student experience and support academic programming long into the future.

In March 2022, the Pacific Board of Trustees approved a project to complete the full renovation of Pacific Hall on the Forest Grove Campus. The renovation will create additional classrooms and computer technology labs as well as address necessary infrastructure upgrades. This is the final phase of a 2017 project that already created new study pods and classrooms in Pacific Hall.

Timeline

Construction will be extensive resulting in the closure of Pacific Hall. The building will be inaccessible during construction, which begins immediately after May Commencement 2023, with a planned reopening in Spring 2024.

What This Means for Students

Offices and centers that reside in Pacific Hall will be moved to other campus locations during the construction process, and Fall 2023 classes will be scheduled elsewhere on campus. To adjust for the loss of classroom space, we will be utilizing many spaces that are often used for larger meetings such as Berglund 200, the Tran Library Conference Room, the MPR, and other spaces.

What This Means for Faculty and Staff

To adjust for the loss of classroom space in Pacific Hall during the Fall 2023 semester, we will be using many larger meeting spaces. Priority will be given to scheduling student classes vs. general meetings until the project is complete.

Due to limited capacity for on-campus events, we are asking all groups to default to Zoom meetings while Pacific Hall is offline. In addition, since large gathering spaces will be in high demand during construction, we ask programs and offices to consider delaying large events until the Spring 2024 semester whenever possible.

Some of the spaces faculty will be asked to teach in may have non-standard audiovisual systems. If you would like one-on-one tech training for any classroom or meeting room you will be using, please contact the Helpdesk to request training.

Building occupants will receive additional information about the moving process.
