Jim Ofstad OD ’71 Retired after 47 years as an optometrist

Jim Ofstad OD ’71 retired last December from the Ronan (Mont.) Eye Clinic after 47 years of serving his community. At the time of his retirement, he was working with a large team, seeing patients in a building that he designed himself. He had come a long way. When he first established his practice, he worked alone and saw patients in an old bar that had gone out of business, stapling old sheets to the ceiling of his makeshift exam room.

He now looks forward to playing and building his collection of Native American-style hardwood flutes during retirement. He and his wife, Debbie, still live in the same home that he built in the 1970s.
