Kara Putman '22 Receives McCall Center for Civic Engagement Award

Kara PutmanKara Putman '22 was named the winner of the McCall Center for Civic Engagement Award at Pacific University's 2022 Undergraduate Awards Ceremony. The award is given to the student who most exemplifies civic engagement at Pacific.

Putman joined the McCall Center as a McCall Fellow in her first year at Pacific. McCall Fellows are selected based on their history of civic involvement in high school, which is a testament to Kara's work in community even before she got to Pacific, said Stephanie Stokamer, director of Applied and Experiential Learning.

"Once here, Kara particularly focused on Act in Kindness Day and the Love Rocks initiative, highlighting her strengths in building a community of care. As a future dentist, Kara has traveled internationally with Global Brigades, and has worked to establish a chapter of Global Brigades here at Pacific — still a work in progress, but without Kara's initiative would not even be seed here."

Putman also helped forge connections between the McCall Center and athletics through her role as an All-American cross country runner.
