Northwest Family Services recognizes Pacific’s College of Optometry for service in the Latino Community

Pacific University's College of Optometry has been partnering with Northwest Family Services since 2015, providing critical vision services to underserved populations including dilated vision screenings and eyeglasses. This outreach work was recognized during the XIX Binational Health Fair, “All for Health and Health for all,” held Saturday at Century High School.

The College of Optometry brought its 33-foot mobile eye clinic and a team of 14 optometry students to the health fair in Hillsboro and screened nearly two dozen people. Eyeglasses, free of charge, were also ordered for most of the participants.

Binational Health Week events are held around the country, Mexico and Latin America in October to promote health education and include workshops, vaccinations and medical screenings to vulnerable populations, especially those without health insurance. Northwest Family Services offers health, education, and social services in English and Spanish for the Portland-Salem metro area.
