Pharmacy Faculty Expands International Connections

Three faculty members within Pacific University's School of Pharmacy shared their expertise as scholars in the pharmacy profession, and in doing so, work to improve human health throughout the world.

Fawzy Elbarbry, PhD, RPh, presented a talk and chaired a session in Singapore in September 2013. He delivered his presentation, “Modulation of arachidonic acid metabolism in the hypertensive rat kidneys by sulforaphane: a potential target for hypertension” to at PHARMA 2013, a co-located international conference on pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacology. Elbarbry's presentation was named the Best Research Paper of the conference. He also chaired the “metabolism of endobiotics” session at the conference.

Sigrid Roberts, PhD gave two presentations in Brazil last May. The first was titled  “The role of parasite arginase in Leishmania infections' and was delivered at the fifth World Congress on Leishmaniasis in Porto de Galinhas. She also delivered a talk to faculty and students on “Polyamine metabolism in Leishmania parasites” at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. This followed her organization and hosting of the seventh Biennial Symposium on Polyamines in Parasites, at Pacific University in July 2012. 

Nicole M. Wegrzyn, PharmD, presented a poster in London, England in September 2013. Her presentation was titled “Evaluation of Patient Interest in Mobile Apps for Health-Related Education in Pharmacy Practice” and was delivered at the Medicine 2.0 World Congress.
