Pharmacy Summer Undergraduate Research Opportunities

Pharmacy Summer Undergraduate Students

Pacific undergraduate students have the opportunity to participate in mentored research with faculty in Pacific's School of Pharmacy on the Hillsboro Campus. Students may apply for a limited number of paid summer positions as well as volunteer opportunities. Currently, Pacific University School of Pharmacy offers a paid Summer Research Program supported by:

ASPET SURF Program

The American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (ASPET SURF) Program is a nationally-recognized program that awards four research fellows a $4,600 stipend as well as the opportunity to present research from their 10-week summer fellowship at the ASPET Annual Meeting.

NIH funding

The National Institute of Health (NIH) supports student research through an R16 and an R15 grant. Similar to ASPET SURF funding, students will be paid $4,600 during the 10-week research and may have the opportunity to present their research at national conferences.

Undergraduate students will be paired with a faculty mentor, participate in ongoing research, and work alongside pharmacy students. In addition to hands-on research, the summer research training program includes a diversity of enrichment activities, such as: research seminars, technical demonstrations; elevator pitch competitions, poster presentations, social events, and field trips to local industries and academic institutions.

Faculty Mentors

Faculty who serve in the ASPET SURF Program and/or are supported by NIH-grants engage in active mentorship to support student research across the following specialties.  Prior to applying, we strongly encourage prospective applicants to contact the faculty mentors with whom they are interested in working.  We'd love to hear from you!
