Music Concerts

The Pacific University Music Department hosts a number of music performances throughout the year.

Tickets are available for purchase at the door the day of the event. They are also available two weeks prior to the event, online. Pick up tickets at the box office Will Call, day of the event.


Spring 2019

Musical, HMS Pinafore
7:30 p.m. Friday & Saturday, March 1-2 | 2 p.m. Sunday, March 3

The Pacific University Music Department presents Gilbert and Sullivan’s H.M.S. Pinafore in concert March 1-3. Tickets are available now for the shows, as well as for a special opening night reception event.

Performances will take place in McCready Hall in the Taylor-Meade Performing Arts Center on Pacific’s Forest Grove Campus. Shows start at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, and Saturday, March 2, with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 3.

General admission tickets are $15, or $10 for senior citizens and students.

5:30 p.m. Friday, March 1 | Special Opening Reception

Guests also are invited to a special opening night reception starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, in the Tim & Cathy Tran Library at Pacific University. Admission is $35 and includes beverages and hors d’oeuvres prior to the show, as well as special reserved seating for the opening night performance.


Choral Concert
7:30 p.m. Friday, April 19

The chamber singers will perform some selections appropriate to Good Friday including motets from Renaissance masters John Taverner and Thomas Tompkins. Other pieces include works by Irish composer Desmond Earley and a world premiere!  

The Concert Choir will present new music by Seth Houston in the form of shape note singing and the S/A choir will sing a recently commissioned work by Jake Runestad entitled, “Rise Up.” 

The Concert Choir TB ensemble will perform Gabriel Fauré's, "Cantique de Jean Racine"; an African-American work song, arranged by Gail Kubik, "John Henry"; and two selections by NW composers/arrangers: Reginald Unterseher's, "The Steady Light", and Ethan Sperry's, "Fré O".

Symphonic Band Concert
7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 20

The program will include both tried and true works and newer compositions by today’s most accomplished composers: "Fanfare for Justice" by Richard Saucedo, "Aurora Borealis" by Rosanno Galante, "The Willow Tree" by Pádraigín Ní Uallacháin, arranged by Michael Sweeney, "Charm" by Kevin Puts,  "La Procession du Rocio" by Joaquin Turina, arranged by Alfred Reed, "Amparito Roca" by Jaime Texidor, arranged by Aubrey Winter, " Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral" by Richard Wagner, arranged by Lucien Cailliet, "Jitterbug" by Robert Buckley.

Jazz Nite
7:30 p.m. Friday, April 26

Jazz Nite will feature standards such as “Caravan” by Duke Ellington, “Moment’s Notice” by John Coltrane, “You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To” by Cole Porter, and “Georgia on My Mind” by Hoagy Carmichael. More recent compositions will include “Out of the Doghouse,” “Beulah Witch,” and “Another Excuse to Play the Blues.” Our special guest artist will be renowned pianist George Mitchell, in a return appearance at Pacific following his recent highly successful stint in Las Vegas. Dr. Burch-Pesses also directs the Jazz Band.

Orchestra Concert
7:30 p.m. Friday, May 3

The program focuses on composers who lived in Vienna at different parts of the 19th century: Johanness Brahms: Academic Festival Ouverture Op. 80
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Viola, and Orchestra in E flat major, Frantz Schubert: Unfinished Symphony No. 8

Featured performers will be two Pacific University music students, Bailey Clark (viola) and Betsy Hesser (violin) playing solo parts in Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante.

Choral Concert
7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4 (Forest Grove Campus) | 3:00 p.m. Sunday May 5 (Hillsboro)

Pacific Choirs will combine with the PCC Rock Creek Choirs to perform the Misa Criolla of Ariel Ramirez in a festive celebration of Hispanic Music! General admission, $7; seniors, $5; Pacific staff, faculty & students, free; youth with student ID, free

3:00 p.m. Sunday May 5 (Hillsboro)
Pacific Choirs will present the 2nd performance of Misa Criolla at St Matthew Catholic Church in Hillsboro. The concert will feature outstanding student soloists and instrumentalists from both Pacific and PCC Rock Creek. A $10 donation is suggested.
