Summer Camp Themes

Week 1 - STEAM & Cooking, July 8 to 12

Preschool/Kindergarten

Get ready for a week full of incredible investigations and experiments, all of which come from everyday household items. Watch water “walk,” make apple volcanoes, create plastic out of milk and so much more! We’ll also put on our engineering hat to create structures, explore pulleys, and stuffy ziplines!

Elementary

Are you ready to make something delicious? Yes chef! After learning the ins and outs of safe food preparation, campers will get to prepare various snacks and even participate in a bake-off challenge! We’ll learn cooking techniques from some guest teachers in the restaurant industry and about the science behind some of our favorite dishes. We’ll even make our own cookbook with the help of our friends at Gann Bros. Printing down the street.

Week 2 - Music & Performance, July 15 to 19

Preschool/Kindergarten

This week we’ll welcome our guest music teacher, Ms. Geneva, for a daily music class full of songs, games, melodies, and rhythms. We’ll craft our own instruments and enjoy some epic dance parties too. We’ll do Reader’s Theater performances of some classic children’s stories, and perhaps most excitingly, preschoolers will prepare a song to sing together as part of the camp musical on Friday afternoon. Grown-ups are invited to the show!

Elementary

Come be part of our first camp musical, starring you! Working with our guest director/music teacher Ms. Geneva, we’ll learn and rehearse the songs and dialogue for our camp musical. We’ll even get to write an original song together for the finale! We’ll also make our sets, costumes, tickets and programs for the big show on Friday afternoon.

Week 3 - Fantasy & Story Telling, July 22 to 26

Preschool/Kindergarten

Dragons, castles, fairies and enchanted lands! A majestic adventure awaits you. We will use our imaginations to create fairy gardens, construct castles, and dress up in fashion crowns, knight masks, shields and wands of our own design. We will read treasured tales of lands beyond, explore our creativity with recycled materials, clay, potion and dragon art. We will quest through magic realms both indoors and out throughout the day!

Elementary

This week we’ll be diving into the world of storytelling. We’ll explore oral storytelling with an elder storyteller and learn myths and legends from Indigenous communities around the U.S. We’ll write our own versions of a classic story and get expert advice from Green Heron Book Arts to learn how to bind our books to create a gorgeous finished piece. We’ll do Reader’s Theater, acting out folktales from around the world, and make a few art projects inspired by these tales. We can’t wait for this weeklong celebration of the arts and imagination!

Week 4 - Water & Wind, July 29 to Aug. 2

Preschool/Kindergarten

Water is all around us, so come learn all about it! Conduct experiments to explore evaporation and clouds, what items sink or float, and grow a rainbow. We will do daily exploration of water tables and tubs with a variety of invitations to play: colored water, water beads, bubbles, ice and water animals. We’ll also make a lava lamp bottle and express creativity with numerous art activities. End the week with an afternoon of water excitement–splash pads, water-wall, spray bottles, small pools and sprinklers!

Elementary

Harness the power of the water and wind to make some amazing vehicles - self-propelling boats, balloon race cars, zipline copters, and more! We’ll also create beautiful designs to adorn our handmade kites and make all kinds of watercolor art. We’ll end the week with a water day where we’ll make some of our own DIY water toys (sprinklers, reusable water soaker balls, etc.) and try them out later that afternoon as a celebration of the last day of camp!
