Pacific's Freedom of Expression Statement

Pacific University’s Freedom of Expression Statement was developed by a University Council task force with representation across the institution. It was approved by the University Council, Staff Senate, Faculty Senate, and President's Council. The final statement was approved by Pacific's Board of Trustees on June 6, 2026. Pacific University affirms that the ability to speak, listen, question, challenge, and debate ideas openly is essential to our academic mission and to the preparation of students for engaged participation in a complex world. As such, freedom of expression is a foundational condition of learning, discovery, and scholarly inquiry.
