Rising From The Margins | Web Series

The Student Counseling Center has recently been the target of hate speech, which has focused on our Rising From The Margins series. This web-based video series holds space to support students drawing on the wisdom of their experiences of living in the margins through deconstructing conversations, storytelling, and interviews with social justice warriors. We do not tolerate hate speech and we denounce racism. We believe it is vital to amplify the voice of our marginalized communities and stand in solidarity with BIPOC communities. To protect our students, staff and faculty, we have shifted our Rising from the Margins videos to be accessed only by the Pacific University community.

The Pacific University Student Counseling Center presents Rising from the Margins. This web series holds space to support students in drawing on the wisdom of their experiences of living in the margins. Through deconstructing conversations, story-telling, and interviews with various social justice warriors, Dr. Shirley Ley, our former staff psychologist and EDI Outreach Coordinator, creates space to express counter narratives, to deconstruct and decenter dominant perspectives, diversify conversations, and to diminish some voices while magnifying others. This platform is dedicated to those who have been perceived as inferior or less worthy because of their ethnocultural background, socioeconomic status, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, nationality, religious affiliation or other identity markers.

Please contact the Student Counseling Center with any questions or concerns.
