The following is a partial list of applications that are available for software development. All computer systems are dual-boot Windows 10 (64-bit) and OpenSUSE (64-bit).

  • Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL) — Free Professional Game Development Environment

  • Eclipse IDE 
  • IntelliJ IDEA and Android Studio — Mobile Device Development
  • VirtualBox with Windows, OpenSUSE, and ArchLinux for various course projects 
  • Full suite of open-source development tools for Linux
  • Languages students will develop projects in include C++, C, Java, Python, and PHP

The computer science program at Pacific University is a member of the Microsoft Developers Network (MSDN); therefore, we are able to furnish students enrolled in computer science courses access to the full suite of Microsoft developer products and operating systems for free.


Our computer science facilities consist of:

15 computers with the following configuration:

  • Intel Core i7 (6 Cores / 12 Threads)
  • Dual-monitor (1 LG 4K, 1 Dell 24") setup with each station 
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 Graphics Card 
  • 1 TB Solid State SATA III Hard Drives

  • Linux Dual-Socket Server (20 Cores / 40 Threads) for heavy computing projects in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, and Data Science
  • Linux Dual-Socket Server (12 Cores / 24 Threads) for Linux and Windows VMs
  • Multiple OpenSUSE Linux Servers
  • Bioinformatics server running BLAST
