Why Study Education Studies?

Students majoring in education studies at Pacific University are prepared to lead in a variety of fields, including K-12 education, healthcare, student services in higher education, community health, human resources. As an education studies major, you'll get real-world, hands-on experience that directly prepares you for the career you want.
As an education studies major, you'll dive into:
- Educational Foundations: Learn about the foundations of human development, the neuroscience of how people learn and are motivated to learn, diverse learners and inclusive educational practices.
- Instructional Design: Learn about curriculum and assessment broadly, instructional strategies, and applications of technology for learning across contexts.
- Experiential Learning: Engage in field experiences, civic engagement, internships, and community-based experiences to gain hands-on practice in real-world contexts, including after-school programs, public and private educational settings, non-profit organizations. Build a comprehensive portfolio of work that demonstrates competency in knowledge application, design skill, research capability, and professional readiness in their area of interest.
- Applied Educational Research (Capstone): Develop a research project, utilize qualitative and quantitative research methods to gather and analyze data, and address an educational issue by pursuing an authentic research project grounded in field placement with a community partner. Students gain hands-on experience by solving real-world challenges, sparking social innovation, creating new learning tools, developing programs, or researching and crafting educational policy.
