Why Study Musical Theatre at Pacific?

Telling a story through music, acting and dance — and sharing that story with an audience — is an unforgettable experience.

As a student in Pacific University’s musical theatre program, you will take part in the joys and challenges of creating with an ensemble of fellow artists! Whether your passion is for singing, acting, dancing, playing an instrument, working backstage — or all of the above — our musical theatre program welcomes your talents! Students involved in our recent productions of Cabaret, Ordinary Days, Ride the Cyclone, and Falsettos (among others) have brought these meaningful shows to life while also making deep connections among the cast and crew.

You can minor in musical theatre at Pacific University in addition to your major in any other subject. A minor in musical theatre provides opportunities to pursue performing while you work toward a degree in the sciences, technology, business or any other program. For those majoring in one of the performing arts (such as theatre, dance or music), a minor in musical theatre adds breadth and additional context to your performing arts major.

What Can You Do with a Musical Theatre Minor?

Students with musical theatre experience may go on to work directly in the field, or in any related area that values creativity, communication and collaboration.

Theaters throughout the Pacific Northwest hold regular auditions and are always looking for triple-threat performers like those who study and train at Pacific. Meanwhile, our student designers, stage managers, and crew learn the creative process from start to finish, and also develop skills in project management, communication and problem solving.

A musical theatre minor also prepares students for careers that require any kind of performance, creativity or teamwork. As a part of a liberal arts degree, the musical theatre minor is part of a well-rounded education that provides  students with the knowledge and skills they need to craft meaningful careers throughout their lives.
